Lucille "Red" Cox Dickerson, age 84 of Central, SC and formerly of Stuart passed away Saturday at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC. She was born in Patrick County to the late John Fred Cox and Ida Agnes Slate Cox. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, E.M. "Dick" Dickerson; a son, Michael B. Smart; three sisters, Velva Coleman, Goldie Cox, Gracie Turner; and three brothers, Odell, Nash, and Charles Cox. Mrs. Dickerson retired from Contact Teleministry where she was the Director of Volunteers and she served as a Hospice volunteer for over 20 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Pendleton, SC.
She is survived by a son and daughter in law, Gary and B.J. Smart of Anderson, SC; one granddaughter, Tracy Smart Arwood and her husband, Scooter; one great grandson, Garrett Arwood and one brother, Homer A. Cox of Roanoke, VA.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Patrick Memorial Gardens with Revs. Richard Harrison and Lewis Harris officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621 or Hospice of Martinsville-Henry County.
