Mrs. Lucy Jane Poore Browne

Mrs. Lucy Jane Poore Browne, 91, of Mt. Airy, died Saturday, December 31, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center surrounded by her family. Mrs. Browne was born in Surry County on October 15, 1925, to Walter Allen and Doris Allred Poore. She attended Women’s College of Greensboro, and was retired from the Mount Airy Merchants Association and Credit Bureau after 35 years of service. Mrs. Browne was very dedicated and active in her church, Holy Angels Catholic Church, where she also served in the Golden Angels. She was also active in the community as a member of the Woman’s Club of Mount Airy, Busy Bees home extension group, Red Hats, Granite City Queens, the Joy Group of Calvary Baptist Church, and Blue Ridge Campers. Mrs. Browne will be sorely missed by her loving family and many, many friends. She was a very special lady to those she touched with her kindness, energy, and happy, optimistic attitude, and she never turned down an opportunity to do something with her friends and family. Those who will forever cherish her memory are her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Ronnie Durham, Doris and David Robinson, and Martha and Greg McCraw; her sons and daughters-in-law, Allen and Scharla Browne and Charlie and LuAnn Browne; her dear grandchildren: Michael Durham and wife Jennifer, Emily Durham Rock and husband Leon, and Will Durham; Rosa Browne Poindexter and husband Todd; Matthew Robinson and wife Jillian; Andrew Robinson and wife Joyelle; Rachel Robinson; Alex, Addie, and Anna McCraw; and Mary Beth and Laura Browne; step grandchildren: Scott Morris and wife Kim, Kevin Morris and wife Lee; great grandchildren: Kassidy, Katie, and Keegan Poindexter; Tucker McCraw; Avery, Everett, and Davis Robinson; step great grandchildren: Evan, Ellie, JC, Clark, and Lilly Morris, and a large, loving extended family. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Browne was preceded in death by her husband, John Alphonse Browne, by her sister, Virginia Leach, and her grandson Robert Browne. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 3, at 10:00AM, at Moody Funeral Home. A funeral mass, conducted by Rev. Father Lawrence Heiney will be held at The Duncan Center of Holy Angels Catholic Church following the visitation at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert Browne Scholarship Fund, in care of the Surry Community College Foundation, 630 South Main Street, Dobson, NC 27017, or to the Building Fund of Holy Angels Catholic Church, 1208 North Main Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
