Mrs. Lula Mae Potts Smith, 73, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, November 18, 2013 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Surry County on November 25, 1939 to the late William Richard and Nancy Susan Edwards Potts. Mrs. Smith was retired from Cross Creek Apparel and was a member of Temple Baptist Church. She was a special friend to the Salvation Army and rang the Christmas bell for many years. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and J.D. Haynes of Mt. Airy; sons and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Bet Smith, Jack Smith all of Mt. Airy; grandchildren and spouse, Dexter Hall, Bobby Hall and Kara Flinchum all of Mt. Airy, Alesha and Michael Marion of Elkin; great grandchildren, Allison, Michelle, and Payton Marion; step grandchildren, Summer Chambers, Brandy Hayes, Timmy Hayes; step great grandchildren, Austin Wall, Leigha Wall, Savhana Wall, Destiny Hayes, and Connor Chambers; a brother, Roy Potts of Mt. Airy; several nieces and nephews; many special friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Eugene Smith; a sister, Mary Ruth Simpson; brothers, Willie, Jimmy, Early, Glen, and Woodrow Potts. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 22, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Zane Fishel and Rev. Ted Crotts officiating. Burial will follow in Dover Baptist Church Cemetery.
