Mrs. M. Faith (Albrecht) Balzer of Thurmond passed away peacefully on January 25, 2019, at the age of 98 at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Halliday, North Dakota on August 2, 1920, to the late Louis J. Albrecht and the late Augusta T. (Rank) Albrecht. Faith was predeceased by her husband Dale Balzer and her son David Balzer and survived by her children: Danny Balzer and Brenda of Rockford, NC, Kathryn (Balzer) Ames and Tabor of Norwalk, CT. Faith is also survived by her two grandchildren; Kimberly (Balzer) Lentz and Bruce Balzer and four great-grandchildren; Alexander Lentz, Breanna Lentz, Eligha Balzer, and Kaileigh Balzer.
Faith always said that her three greatest accomplishments in life were her family, learning to fly in a Stearman aircraft at the age of 18 and volunteering as a Greylady for the US Navy to help PW’s during and after the Korean War. After relocating to Elkin, NC in the late 1950’s she continued her volunteer work with the Girl Scouts, Hospice and Crisis Control. She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed being a part of the Saint Stephen Catholic Church Community. It was only her failing health later on in life that prevented her from continuing volunteer work.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 7, 2019, at St. Stephen Catholic Church, 101 Hawthorne Road Elkin, NC. She will be interned in Winona, MN.
Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, NC is serving the Balzer family.
