Marjorie (Peggy) Maude Blum Beck, age 92, has gone to the arms of the angels in heaven, on April 1, 2017, from the loving care of Hospice and the Surry Community and Rehab facility in Mount Airy.
Born on December 18, 1924 in Cleveland Ohio, to Marjorie Foote Blum and Robert George Blum who have gone before her. She is also pre-deceased by her husband of 44 years, Alvin Beck, her sister Dorothy Blum Miller and brothers Robert and Willard Blum.
Peggy graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1943 and attended both Miami University in Ohio and Purdue University, Indiana. She was a lifelong member of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
She raised five children while the family moved from Cleveland to Columbus OH, and then to West Palm Beach, FL. She later moved back to Cleveland to care for her sister, and then to Sacramento, CA before coming back to Columbus, OH and finally moving to Mount Airy, NC in 2009. She is survived by her children and their spouses:
Wendy Tatman (and James) of Mount Airy, NC
Robert Beck (and Jean) of Keota, OK
Diana Beck of NYC, NY
Kathleen Freeman (and Jesse) of Sebastian, FL
Marjorie Duffy (and Thomas) of Sacramento, CA
She was blessed with eight grandchildren (and in laws):
Emily & Nathaniel (and Amy) Tatman
Athena Beck
Patrick Freeman
Michael (and Jenni), Thomas (and Jessica), Christopher (and Rachel), and Daniel Duffy
…and six great grandchildren.
Peggy has given her love and energy generously to the people around her. She devoted many days and hours for causes she believed in, including her family, church, country, and the right to life. She was a girl scout leader, sang in the church choir, dressed up as a clown to entertain residents at the County Home in Palm Beach, was on the Women’s 20th Gold Coast Cursillo, and attended the seniors camp in Sacramento, to name just a few of her interests. There was always an extra place at her table or a bed and shelter for friends or strangers in need. She has been well loved, and will be greatly missed.
A service in memory of her life will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church in Mount Airy (472 N Main St.) at noon on Friday April 7th. Friends are welcome to visit in the church parish hall beginning at 11:00am before the service, or after the service.
