Mrs. Martha Wood Belcher

Mrs. Martha Wood Belcher, age 94 of Jacks Creek Road, Woolwine, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2008 at the R. J. Reynolds Patrick County Memorial Hospital in Stuart. She was born in Meadows of Dan on January 8, 1914 to the late Rufus and Bertha Boyd Wood. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Belcher was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley G. Belcher; one son, Allen Belcher; one granddaughter, Sandra C. Turner; one grandson, Edwin Belcher; one great-grandson, Joseph Leon Belcher, Jr.; four brothers, George, Ed, Benton and Jerry Wood; and her step-mother, Annie Pratt Wood. Mrs. Belcher was a homemaker all of her life, and was a devoted wife, mother and granny. She had attended Lawson School in Meadows of Dan, and was a member of Sycamore Baptist Church.
Mrs. Belcher is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Bertha and Landis Conner of Woolwine and Belle and Buron Hall of Meadows of Dan; four sons and five daughters-in-law, Joe and Vera Belcher, Clifford "Tip" and Helen Belcher, Harless and Jackie Belcher and Ed and Carolyn Belcher, all of Stuart, and Ruby Belcher of Bassett; 18 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Sam Belcher of Woolwine; one brother and two sisters-in-law, Harless and Blanche Wood and Claudine Wood, all of Meadows of Dan.
Funeral services for Mrs. Belcher will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Gerald Melton and Pastor Marcus Wood officiating. Burial will follow in the Belcher Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home of Bertha Conner, 131 Branch Lane in Woolwine.
