Mrs. Mary Ethel Barker

Mrs. Mary Ethel Barker, age 89, of Elkin, NC passed away on Friday morning March 30, 2018 at Elkin Health Care in Elkin, NC. She was born in Wilkes County on January 19, 1929 to the late Joseph Eugene Sammons and the late Minnie Higgins Sammons. She was a member of Union Hill Friends, and was a retired Hair Dresser. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Major Vance Barker; son David Vance Barker; daughter Cathy Barker; grand Jason Barker; sisters Eva Mae Anderson, Savannah Louise Wagner, Grace Leigh Hendricks, Helen Sammons Blevins; brother’s Cecil Austin Sammons, Flake Sammons, Marshall Sammons, Earl Winston Sammons, Joseph Eugene Sammons, Jr. Surviving are daughter and son-in-law, Connie and David Higgins of Ennice, NC; grandchildren, Candice Michele Loggins, Richard Allen Stowe, Jr, Christopher Wayne Harris, Franklin Vance Harris, Michael Dale Harris, Martin David Harris; 27 great grandchildren, with two special great-granddaughters, Leah Harris, and Chloe Loggins; Two great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Tuesday April 3, 2018 in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, with burial to follow in the Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery Austin Trap Hill Rd. Elkin, NC 28621. Rev. William Souther and Rev. Hugh Miller will officiate the services. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at Moody-Davis Funeral Home one hour before the service.
