Mary Victoria Dockery Hayes passed away peacefully in her sleep in her bedroom early Monday morning, November 23, 2015. Her oldest daughter, Donna, and her youngest daughter Kaye, and her granddaughter Gina were with her when she passed. She would have wanted to start the week right. And since she was ready, willing and able to move on and was looking forward to being with her husband Clyde again, we can assume that once again mom did things her way. Vickie was an incredible mom, grandmother and great grandma. She was also an incredible wife, particularly when you consider whom she had to try to keep in line. She was a tremendous aunt, sister, daughter, cousin, friend, community leader, reflexologist, plumber, antique dealer, choir and church leader and much more. She was truly an inspiration to so many. Her kindness and generosity were legendary. There will never be any one quite like her and those she has left behind have a lot to live up to. Amen. Vickie was 87 years. She was born at home in the Union Cross Community between Dobson and Elkin in Surry County, North Carolina on June 18, 1928 to and preceded in death by Charlie Alvin Bryant Taylor Dockery and Minnie Elizabeth Shinault Dockery. She is survived by her five children, 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Her children are: son and daughter-in-law Bill and Diane Hayes of Efland, NC. daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Hayes of Lowgap, Linda and Michael Sotak of Lambsburg, VA., Mark and Suzanne Hayes Furman of Mt. Airy, and Kaye Hayes and Donald Payne of Lowgap; her grandchildren are Chip and Debbie Lowe, Gina and Steve Button, Susan and Mark Hernandez, David and Annette Jones, Gretchan and John Hawks, Ben Bowman, Zach Bowman, Christopher Bowman and Gabe Hayes and Ann Goodnight. Her great Grandchildren are Amber Burcham, Stacey Lowe, Mike and Olivia Shelton, Hannah Button, Carmen Hernandez, Sophie Hernandez, Luke Hernandez, Danielle and Chris Wilson, Miranda Jones, Allison Culler, Lizzie Culler and Eric Goodnight. She was preceded in death by her older brother Gilmer Monroe Dockery and his wife Jaunita Steele and her younger brothers Phillip Badgett Dockery and Thomas Dean Dockery. She is survived by her oldest sister Hallie Mae Dockery OShea and her younger sister Fairy Eva Dockery Hayes and Elizabeth Ann Dockery Helton. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Jo Snow Dockery and Betty Stewart Dockery and her brother-in-law Reverend Charles Curtis Hayes and his wife Marilyn Hayes.
