Mrs. Mary Virginia Akers Hiatt

Ms. Mary Virginia "Tootie" Akers Hiatt, age 91 of Mt. Airy, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Hiatt was born in Surry County, August 28, 1920 to Joseph Lou and Lou Ann Midkiff Akers. She was retired from Spencer's Inc. and was a member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. Ms. Hiatt was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her devoted family. Surviving is a daughter and son-in-law, Carlene and Joe Galyean of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Billy and Linda Hiatt also of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Donald Galyean and wife Vicki of Clemmons; Chad Hiatt, and Jason Hiatt of Mt. Airy; great grandchildren, Keith Galyean, Hanna Hiatt and Cody Hiatt. In addition to her parents, Ms. Hiatt was preceded in death by four sisters and a brother. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Shelton Church of the Brethren by Rev. Marvin Wade and Rev. Ted Turner. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 until the time of the service and at other times at the home of Billy and Linda Hiatt.
