Mrs. Mary Levon Shores Harrison Houser, age 95, a loving Christian mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, of Dobson, NC, passed away on July 9, 2016, at Twelve Oaks Assisted Living in Mount Airy, NC. Mrs. Houser was born in Surry County on April 25, 1921, to the late Earlie Marvin Shores and the late Hattie A. Kennedy Shores. She was a member of C and Adams St. Church of God in Fayetteville, NC, where she faithfully led a weekly prayer meeting for 60 years before moving to Parkwood Place in Elkin, NC. At Parkwood Place, Mrs. Houser began a weekly prayer group among the residents. She continued as a fervent prayer warrior to the very end of her life, and she always stressed the importance of seeking God’s will.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sgt. Richard Hardman Houser; four brothers and one sister-in-law, John Shores, James Shores, Clifton Shores, Clinton and Evelyn.Shores; one granddaughter, Adina Ryan; father of her children, William Clinton Harrison.
Mrs. Houser is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert William and Lissa Harrison of Los Angeles, CA, and Billy Joe and Mary Harrison of Dobson; three grandchildren, Robert Harrison, Jr., of California, Richard (Rachel) Harrison of Colorado and Michelle (Conrad) Adamczak of California; nine great-grandchildren, Ashli (Alex) Nixon, Whitney (Chris) Gherman, Brooke (Matt) Dusenberry,their father, Russ Mentzer and step-father, David Ryan, all of Ohio; Bradi Harrison, Cruz Adamczak, Chase Adamczak , Camden Adamczak, of California; Alex Harrison, Bodhi Harrison, of Colorado; two great-great grandchildren, Isa Rose Gherman and Emerson Rae Nixon, both of Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Lucille Shores of Thurmond; one sister and brother-in-law, Richard and Magdalene Cox of Thurmond, and three sisters-in-law, Odessa Shores, Maudaleen Shores both of Thurmond and Carol Swaim of State Road; a special niece, Janie Shores Johnson of State Road; special friends, Belle Shepherd of Flint, Texas, and Agnes Billings of Elkin.
Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, July 13, 2016, at 2 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Bobby Norman and Rev. Brian Cardwell. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Charity Hill Baptist Church, c/o Mike Shores, 562 Liberty School Rd., State Road, NC 28676.
