Mrs. Mary Sutphin Matthews

Mrs. Mary Ruth Sutphin Matthews, age 69 of Mt. Airy, passed away Sunday, April 8, 2012 at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Matthews was born in Surry County on November 14, 1942 to Bernie and Pauline Timmons Sutphin. She was retired from Pine State Knitwear and was a faithful Member of Salem United Methodist Church. Mrs. Matthews was a dedicated volunteer with Mountain Valley Hospice, and the Meals on Wheels Program. She loved everyone and caring and sharing with others. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Matthews of the home; daughters and son-in-law, Amy Urban of Pensacola, FL; Suzi and Tom Jett of Annapolis, MD; a son, Eddie Matthews of Burlington; grandchildren, Justin Matthews, Tyler Jennings, Anna Marie Urban, Samone Jett, Colt Jett; a sister and brother-in-law, Lougenia and Alvin Smith of Mt. Airy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bernie Sutphin, Jr. and Sharon of Mt. Airy; Nicky and Rika Sutphin also of Mt. Airy; several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and a great-great nephew. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bud Cameron. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 11:30 until the time of the service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Woltz Hospice Home at 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
