Mrs. Mary Ruth Hiatt Shaw

Mrs. Mary Ruth Hiatt Shaw, age 84 of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Shaw was born on April 20, 1932 in Surry County to the late Alvin Lee Hiatt, Sr. and Martha Agnes Cook Hiatt. She retired as a plant manager from Kentucky Derby after many years of dedicated service and was a lifetime member of Flat Rock Baptist Church. Mrs. Shaw is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Billy Childress; grandchildren and spouses, LaDonna Hawks and Craig and Billy Ray Childress, Jr. and Missy; step-grandchildren and spouses, Kristie and Joseph Richardson and Tammy and Charles Burcham; great-granddaughter, Sophia Childress, step-great-grandchildren, Kristen, Kerrie Richardson and Cory Burcham; sister, Janice Hiatt; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shaw was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Conrad Shaw; sisters, Irene Hiatt and Winonia Wilhite; and brothers, Alvin Hiatt, Alfred Hiatt, Dillard Hiatt, and Franklin Hiatt. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Flat Rock Baptist Church with Dr. Jon Cawley and Rev. David Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the time of the service at Flat Rock Baptist Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017.
