Mrs. Mary Leola Lawson White, age 66 of Stuart passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born in Patrick County on April 21, 1942 to the late James Cleveland Lawson and Katherine Lewis Lawson. In addition to her parents, Mrs. White was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard R. Bowden, and three brothers, Henry, Jessie and Elmer Lawson. She was a member of New Hope Church of the Brethren where she had been a member of the choir and a Sunday school teacher, and had worked at Bassett-Walker Industries for over 12 years.
Mrs. White is survived by her husband, John "Jack" White, Jr. of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Diana Bowden of Stuart; one step-daughter, Kerri Harvey of Floyd; one step-son, Kyle White of Floyd; two grandchildren, Garrett White and Kaylyn Meadow; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nellie and Jim Foley and Alice and James Ferguson, all of Stuart; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Ed and Sheila Lawson of Stuart and Amos Lawson of Collinsville.
Funeral services for Mrs. White will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at New Hope Church of the Brethren with Rev. Mike Varner, Rev. Rick Randall and Rev. Danny Gilley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lawson Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at New Hope Church of the Brethren, and at other times at the home, 41 Lawson Estate Road, Stuart.
