Mrs. Mattie Virginia Bowman

Mrs. Mattie Virginia Bowman, age 86 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2013 at the Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on January 19, 1927 to the late Major and Wildie Bowman Nunn. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by her husband, Hampton Edgar Bowman; one daughter-in-law, Hilda Robertson Bowman; eight brothers; and four sisters. She had been a member of Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church for 65 years, and had worked for J.P. Stevens and United Elastic.
Mrs. Bowman is survived by three sons, Elder Clarence Bowman and wife, JoAnn, of Lexington, North Carolina, Charles "Hoss" Bowman of Stuart and Wayne "Skip" Bowman and wife, Lorna, of Stuart; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Donald Singleton of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bowman will be held Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at Red Bank Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Joey Jenkins and Elder Rodney Marshall officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
