Mrs. Melba Frances McHone Boyd

Mrs. Melba Frances McHone Boyd, age 88 of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, December 28, 2015, at Central Continuing Care. Mrs. Boyd was born in Surry County on November 17, 1927 to Sam and Annie Joyce McHone. She was such a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who will be sorely missed. Mrs. Boyd was a member of Grace Baptist Church. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and David White; Janet and Jerry Johnson; Penny and Jerry Bowman, and Robin Boyd; sons and a daughter-in-law, Steve and Elaine Boyd, and Tony Boyd; grandchildren, Julie Carpenter (Danny), Corwin Johnson, Buckley Slender-White (Charles), Lauren Jennings (Adam), Stephanie Marie Boyd, Amy Boyd, Jimmy Boyd (Lindsay), Bradley Crouse, Crystal Crouse, Turner Bowman (Ashley), Sabrina Osborne (Aaron) and Aaron Bowman; and nine great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Boyd was preceded in death by her husband, Fonzo Lee Boyd and all her siblings. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, December 30, 2015 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev Jerry Pardue. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or to Grace Baptist Church at 209 London Ln, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers at CCC and to Dr. Caitlin Burciu.
