Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Bean Poindexter

Mrs. Myrtle Ruth Bean Poindexter, age 87, of Mount Airy, passed away on Friday, August 18, 2017 at Central Continuing Care in Mount Airy. Mrs. Poindexter was born in Patrick County on June 2, 1930 to the late A. D. and Vera Dalton Bean. She was a member of Fancy Gap Baptist Church. Mrs Poindexter is survived by three loving children: two daughters, Rosa Marshall and husband Larry, and Brenda Jurney; and one son, Calvin Lee Powell; one sister, Barbara Wilmoth; five grandchildren, Antionette Jurney, Kelly Simmons, Kristy Powell-Castro, Wade Jurney, Jr., and Sarah Marshall; nine great-grandchildren; and eleven nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Poindexter was preceded in death by her first husband, James Calvin Powell, and her late husband, Jake Poindexter; a grandson, Joshua Powell; one sister, Doris Bean Sawyers; a half-sister, Clara Belle Flinchum; a half-brother, Leroy Bean; and a son-in-law, Wade Jurney, Sr. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at Skyline Memory Garden with Rev. Dwight Sechrist officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday at Skyline Memory Garden one hour prior to the service. The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Central Continuing Care for the love and care shown to Mrs. Poindexter during her stay.
