Mrs. Myrtle E. Sanders, 92, daughter of the late Charles Benjamin and Maude Lester Vencill, of Princewick, WV, passed away Monday February 6, 2017 at Central Continuing Care in Mt Airy. Mrs. Sanders’ journey began February 18, 1924 in McDowell County WV. Mrs. Sanders was a graduate of Stoco High School in Lego, WV, and a World War II bride. She and her husband were the co-owners of Sanders’ Super Market in Coal City, WV, before relocating to Northern Virginia where they both worked for Southland Corporation before retiring in 1973. Mrs. Sanders was President of the award winning Coal City Garden Club for many years and President of the Ladies’ Aid Society in Coal City Community Church. She loved Jesus with all of her heart and she loved the local church where she taught Adult Sunday School, directed several Vacation Bible Schools, and many church plays. While her major ministry was prayer, in her retirement years, she also became an accomplished artist. God used her to bring encouragement to many people with her own hand painted greeting cards. This precious woman of God was a member of Calvary Assembly of God in Mount Airy and will be greatly missed by her family, church family, and nursing staff at Central Continuing Care. Left to cherish her memories is a son; Larry H. Sanders of Coal City, WV; a daughter; Judy Vaught and son-in-law, Pastor Jim Vaught, of Mount Airy, NC. She was “Nana” to five grandchildren; Dia Wiley, and her husband LTC Robert O Wiley, Lyssa Vaught, Matthew Vaught, and wife Megan, Lonnie and Lee Sanders. She was also Nana to five beautiful great granddaughters; Megan Hovey and husband LT Brad Hovey, Rachel Gumpert and husband Andrew Gumpert, Monika Wiley, Ella Grace Vaught, and Mary Sophia Vaught, one sister-in-law; Peggy Vencill of Princewick, WV, five attentive, loving nieces; Rita McAlpine, Kathy Brouse, Vicky Meadows, Betty Wallace, and Brenda Holdren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sanders was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, Lillard Homer Sanders, of Coal City, WV, a brother; Marvin Vencill, and a sister, Mable Brakefield, both of Princewick, WV. The family will receive friends Wednesday, February 8, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Calvary Assembly of God, 1536 W. Devon Drive Mt. Airy. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM Thursday February 9, 2017 at Calvary Assembly of God with services conducted by Rev. Jim and Judy Vaught, and Matthew Vaught. A graveside service will be held Friday, February 10, 2017, 2:00 PM at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley, WV.
