Mrs. Myrtle Elma Dawson Taylor, 79 of Mt. Airy passed away at Central Continuing Care on Monday, July 15, 2013. She was born in Carroll County, VA on July 11, 1934 to the late George Lester and Sarah Elizabeth Edwards Dawson. Mrs. Taylor retired as payroll and personnel clerk from Myrtle Desk Company and was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Unselfishly, she devoted her life to caring for her family and friends. She is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Toni and Dr. Samuel J. Ray of Mt. Airy; two adored grandsons, Samuel Adam Ray of McClellanville, SC and Jacob Taylor Ray of South Jordan, UT; one sister, Irene Thompson of Cana and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death her husband, Dillard Taylor; five sisters, Ruth McCraw, Ruby Sykes, Bertha Brannock, Clarsie Combs and Inez Dawson; five brothers, Otto, Alph, Will, Edd and Howard Dawson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 18, 2013 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Billy Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the James Monroe Hiatt Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday from 1:00 PM until 1:45 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 249 Chatham Rd., Mt. Airy, NC 27030 for the Humanitarian Aid Fund.
