Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth “Lizzie” Seal Hawks passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at her home. She was born on June 27, 1909 to Samuel Seal, Sr. and Drucilla. Mrs. Hawks was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Clarence Harold Hawks. She retired from Spencer’s in Mount Airy. She was an excellent seamstress and worked in several mills during her lifetime. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, crocheting, quilting, visiting with friends and family. “Lizzie” was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church for 95 years. She loved attending church and her church family. She was able to attend church until the middle of April of this year. Mrs. Hawks is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and David McPeak; two grandsons and their wives, David McPeak Jr. and Emily, Brian McPeak and Adrian; two great-grandchildren Ava McPeak and Carter McPeak. She loved her family deeply and enjoyed spending time with them and doing things for them. Other survivors are a special great-nephew, Jacky Seal and Pam; and special friends Nick and Debbie Jarrell; nieces Arlene Sheilds, Polly Jarrell, Betty Jo Herrel, Bessie Johnson, Alice Cave and nephews, Cecil Seal, Raymond Worrell and wife Susan and Troy Seal and wife Faye; and many other relatives. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Johnson, Sally Worrell, and Josie Seal; brothers, Alonzo, Luther, Benton, Oscar, Allen, Sam Jr., and Wesley Seal; a special niece, Alice Horton and nephews, Robert and Jack Seal who lived with her family for a while when they were young. She always welcomed friends and family into her home and enjoyed talking on the phone with them. She will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved her. The funeral will be held at Antioch Baptist Church on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with the Reverend Grant Atkins, the Reverend Dale Wallace, and the Reverend Tony Holder. She will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home on Saturday, May 20, 2017 from 6-8 p.m. The family would like to thank Dr. Nelson Gardner and his staff for their excellent care; and her caregivers for their excellent care especially since the middle of April.
