Mrs. Nellie L. Horton

Mrs. Nellie Lewis Horton, age 89 of Meadows of Dan passed away Saturday in Bassett at the home of her daughter. She was born on April 27, 1917 in Carroll County to the late Elzie Bud Lewis and Sarah Ann Boyd Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James L. Horton; three daughters, Jewell Scott, Jacquelene Spraker, Sara Wright; one son, Sestress Horton; one sister, Virginia "Jean" Dalton; and one brother, Elmer "Sam" Lewis. She retired from J.P. Stevens.
Surviving are three daughters, Faye White of Hillsville, Janice Ray of Fieldale, Lou Pace of Bassett; two sons; Douglas Horton and Danny Horton both of Meadows of Dan; 34 grandchildren; 63 great grandchildren; 21 great great grandchildren; four sisters; Maybelle Harris of Gladesboro, Estes Goad of Gladesboro, Lola Horton of Hillsville, Azalee Dalton of Goodland, IN; and four brothers; Avery Lewis of Remington, IN, Jake Lewis of Gladesboro, Nelson Lewis of Hillsville, and John Lewis of Gladesboro.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. Burial will follow in the Boyd Family Cemetery in Meadows of Dan. The family will receive friends Monday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Lou Pace, 645 Murray Hill Lane, Bassett, VA.
