Mrs. Olive Monday Riggs, 94, of Winston Salem, formerly of Mt. Airy, passed away Monday, October 28, 2013 at Novant Health (Forsyth Medical Center) in Winston Salem. She was born in Carroll County on October 10, 1919 to the late Robert Seymour and Louvenia Leftwich Monday. Mrs. Riggs married Roger William Riggs, Sr. in 1946. Olive was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and aunt. She retired from Central Telephone Company after 40 years of service. She was an avid and talented crafter. Olive was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was honored in 1994 with The Governor's Volunteer Award for her many years of service to the Mt. Airy Library and Blood Donations to the American Red Cross. Olive joined First Baptist Church in Mt. Airy in 1929 and was deeply involved in various activities. She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roger William Riggs, Jr. and Muriel Riggs, Richard Dean and Debbie Riggs all of Winston Salem; grandchildren, Ashley Riggs, Adam Riggs (Merideth), and Laura Garlow (Mike); step-grandchildren, Ryan Sills, Katie Brown (Sam); great granddaughter, Merritt Riggs; a sister, Arline M. Brown of Winston Salem; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Riggs was preceded in death by her husband, Roger William Riggs, Sr.; a sister, Annie M. Smith; a brother, Robert C. Monday. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2013 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Mt. Airy with Dr. Roger Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy.
