Mrs. Ollie Mabel Spencer Thomas, age 84 of Stuart, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born in Patrick County on December 17, 1924 to the late William Lee and Lula Adams Spencer. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Thomas; one daughter, Mildred Louise Ceasar; one son, Billy Thomas, and two infant sons; three sisters, Bertha Critz, Elsie Ross and Novie Ingram; and three brothers, Robert, Daniel and George Spencer. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church, and had been a custodian at Patrick County High School, along with doing private housekeeping.
Mrs. Thomas is survived by five daughters, Mable Sharree Carter of Rocky Mount, Marilyn Fuller of Richmond, Frankie France of Stuart, Mary Rivers of Denton, Texas and Marcia Halimi of Carrollton, Texas; four sons, James Carl Thomas, Charlie Wilson Thomas and Albert Louis Thomas, all of Stuart, and Danny Thomas of Beaverton, Oregon; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and two sisters, Annie Ingram and Adell Via, both of Columbus, Ohio.
Funeral services for Mrs. Thomas will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Bennie Redd officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart, and at other times at the home of her son, Albert Louis Thomas, New Hope Church Road, Stuart.
