Mrs. Orea Griffith Rakes

Mrs. Orea Griffith Rakes, age 95 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, April 23, 2008 at the Landmark Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on November 8, 1912 to the late James J. and Ella Bennett Griffith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rakes was preceded in death by her husband, George Taylor Rakes, and two brothers, T. H. Griffith and Clifford Griffith. She was a graduate of Radford University, and retired as a school teacher after 41 years of service with the Patrick County School System. She was a member of Stuart United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Rakes is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Larry Belcher of Stuart; one son and daughter-in-law, George and Amy Rakes of St. Louis, Missouri; three grandchildren, Monica Gonzalez, and husband, Jorge, Paige Rakes and Lauren Rakes; and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home with Rev. Tommy Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Woolwine Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday night from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
