Mrs. Patricia Ann Matthews "Cricket" Hester

Mrs. Patricia Ann Matthews "Cricket" Hester, 80, of Mt. Airy passed away Monday, January 7, 2013 at Northern Hospital of Surry County. She was born in Surry County on May 15, 1932 to the late Roy and Betty Jane Thomas Matthews. Mrs. Hester retired from Smart Top Hosiery. She was a loving mother and grandmother and will be deeply missed. Mrs. Hester is survived by three daughters and a son-in-law, Libby and Van Combs, Patsy Baskin and Devona Shumate all of Mt. Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Wanda Matthews of Granite Falls, NC; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eva Martin of Columbia, SC and Alma Callahan of Mt. Airy; a brother, Charlie Matthews of Mt. Airy and a special friend, Truman Johnson, of Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents Mrs. Hester was preceded in death by her husband, Avery Thomas Hester; a sister, Marydell Taylor and a brother, Luke Matthews. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 4:00 PM on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 225 Shamrock Ave., Mt. Airy. A private memorial service will be held at a later time.
