Mrs. Pearl Arlene Lawless Tatum, age 78 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, January 15, 2009 at her home. She was born in Patrick County on September 14, 1930 to the late George Thomas and Sallie McBride Lawless. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tatum was preceded in death by her husband, Richard C. Tatum, Sr.; one daughter, Kathy Tatum; two sisters, Mary Lawless and Effie Foley; and one brother, Raymond Lawless. She was a longtime member of Concord United Methodist Church where she was a volunteer with Millie's Ministries. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and had volunteered at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center. She had been an avid bowler and was active in the following leagues with the Henry County Parks and Recreation: Wednesday morning Seniors, Tuesday morning League, and the Senior Doubles - No Tap.
Mrs. Tatum is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Jason Harris of Stuart; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard C. Tatum, Jr. and Venie of Woolwine; two grandchildren, Sara and Amber Tatum; two step-grandchildren, Brian Hall and Dana Spencer; two great-grandchildren, Dakota Jarrett and Janae Vaughan; two step-great-grandchildren, Caleb and Ashley Hall; one sister, Lillian Smart of Stuart; and one brother, Guy Lawless of Collinsville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Tatum will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Mark Clayton and Keith Vernon officiating. Burial will follow in the Tatum Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
