Mrs. Peggy Juanita Frye Brintle, 85, of Mount Airy, passed away quietly at home on Saturday, February 20, 2016, after several years of declining health. Peggy survived childhood polio with the grit and fortitude that would characterize the rest of her life, and she often inspired others with her sheer determination. She taught herself how to write with her left hand after the illness rendered her right hand unusable. Peggy went back to school as an adult, after raising three children to their teenage years. She earned her GED, achieved her Associate’s Degree with the first graduating class of Surry Community College, and graduated from Wake Forest University (which she attended while pregnant with her fourth child). Peggy went on to have a long, rewarding career teaching Sixth Grade at Franklin Elementary School, and Surry County Schools awarded her with Teacher of the Year in 1986. Mrs. Brintle retired in 1989 to pursue her newfound passion for quilting. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 23 at 12:30 p.m., at White Plains Friends Meeting, in Mount Airy, followed immediately by the funeral at 2 p.m. <?xml:namespace prefix = "o" ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
