Mrs. Pheobe Spencer Nowlin

Mrs. Pheobe S. Nowlin, 85, of Stuart, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, November 29, 2008 at the Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born January 10, 1923 in Riner, VA to the late Rice Hinley and Grace Jones Dobbins. Mrs. Nowlin was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church for over 60 years where she was the former clerk, choir president and Missionary Circle president and treasurer.

Mrs. Nowlin was also preceded in death by her first husband; Daniel Richard Spencer, Sr., her second husband; James E. Nowlin, an infant son; James R. Spencer, a son; Bobby L. Spencer, Sr., a grandson; Daryl "Tim" Spencer and three brothers; James, Hampton and Calvin Dobbins. Surviving Mrs. Nowlin are three daughters; Verna S. Smith of Richmond, VA, Melva S. Ellis of the home and Karen M. Spencer of Stuart, VA, four sons; Joseph E. Spencer of Fort Washington, MD, Daniel R. Spencer, Jr. of Ridgeway, VA, John W. Spencer of Ridgeway, VA, Ronald H. Spencer of Richmond, VA, one sister; Irene Witten of West VA, Seventeen Grandchildren and Four Great Grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nowlin will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Moody Funeral Home Stuart with the Rev. Franklin Reynolds and Rev. Richard Spencer officiating. Burial will be at the Ingram-Spencer Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:30AM until the time for the service at the funeral home.
