Mrs. Phyllis Moore Carter, age 83 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at her home. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia on September 8, 1925 to the late Eli and Nancy Lou O'Daniels Moore. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her husband, William Curtis Carter, three brothers, and two sisters. Mrs. Carter graduated from Marshall College with a BS Degree and interned in Dietetics at MCV in Richmond. She worked as a Nutrition Teacher at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond and was a registered dietician for R.J. Reynolds Hospital when it began operation. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association for 50 years, and had been a member of Stuart United Methodist Church since 1954, serving in many capacities. She was president of the J.E.B. Stuart Women's Club for several years. She recently received The Paul Harris Fellow Award from the Stuart Rotary Club where her late husband had perfect attendance for 53 years. This is the highest honor given by the Rotary Club.
Mrs. Carter is survived by two daughters, Amy R. Carter, and husband, Jimmy Francis of Stuart; Nancy Milby, and husband, Dave of Hartfield; one son William Curtis Carter, Jr. of Stuart; two grandchildren, Gabriel Heath and Parker Heath, both of Stuart; and two brothers, Ralph and Paul Moore, both of Kentucky.
Funeral services for Mrs. Carter will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Tommy Shepherd officiating. Burial will follow in the Stuart Cemetery.
