Mrs. Ruby Smith Goad, age 83 of Stuart passed away Thursday, June 12, 2008 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. She was born in Patrick County on May 12, 1925 to the late Jesse Taylor Smith and Harriet Virginia Smith. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Goad was preceded in death by one brother, Glenn W. Smith. She was retired from United Elastic Corporation and was a member of Five Forks Wesleyan Church.
Mrs. Goad is survived by her husband, Lloyd Vernon Goad, and her special poodle, "Charlie," of the home; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Linda and Dewey Nelson of Ararat and Frances Joyce of Stuart; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl and Zettie Smith of Abingdon and Marvin and Maxine Smith of Cana; five special nieces and nephews and their spouses that Mrs. Goad referred to as her grandchildren, Mitch and Debi Nelson of Mount Airy, North Carolina, Todd and Tina Nelson of Ararat, Angie Nelson of Mount Airy, Jessica Nelson Nations of Ararat and Jeffrey Lee Hill of Stuart; six great-nieces and nephews that she referred to as her great-grandchildren, along with other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Mrs. Goad will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jeremiah Clement and Rev. Gary Combs officiating. Burial will follow in Patrick Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
