Mrs. Ruth Bonds Chittum

Mrs. Gladys Ruth Cobler Bonds Chittum, age 90 of East Bend, passed away at her home Monday, December 10, 2012, surrounded by family. Mrs. Chittum was born in Surry County on January 7, 1922 to William Yancy and Laura Noah Cobler. She was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and J.C. Crowder, Wanda Opry, Barbara and Jay Reid, Darlene and Steve Melton, Jennell and Billy Hiatt; sons and daughters-in-law, Clayton and Sheila Bonds, Jay and Angela Bonds, Jimmy Bonds, Freddie and Connie Bonds; twenty grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren; twenty great-great grandchildren; five step children; sixteen step grandchildren; thirty three step great grandchildren; eight step great-great grandchildren; and two sisters. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Chittum was preceded in death by her first husband, Vernie Wade Bonds; her second husband, George Thomas Chittum; five children, Charles, Samuel, Melvin, Naomi, and Una Mae Bonds; three grandchildren; five sisters and three brothers. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, December 13, 2012 by Rev. James Pentecost and Rev. Jay Bonds. Burial will follow in the Bonds Family Cemetery.
