Mrs. Sarah Ellen Johnson Norman, age 94, of Mt. Airy, passed away Thursday, April 14, 2016, at the Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Norman was born in Surry County on May 31, 1921, to General Lee and Rosa Mae Goins Johnson. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother who will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Gail and Maynard Horton; Glenda and Tommy Cain; a son, H. R. Knott; step daughter and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jeff Darnell, John Martin and Doug Woods; fifteen grandchildren; twenty nine great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; Jeremy Jones who “Granny” loved as one of her own grandchildren and a special niece, Judy Knott Allen. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Norman was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Ray Norman; sons, Russell Knott and Roger Knott; a grandson, Darin Calloway; step daughters, Genevieve Martin and Judy Woods; a step son, Michael Norman a sister, Zelma Rowe and brothers, Curtis, Bob, Dixie and Vester “Doc” Johnson. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Mt. Airy Wesleyan Church by Rev. Richard Loman and Rev. Arnold Beard and Rev. Eric Smith. Burial will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care at 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
