Mrs. Shelby Jean Tucker

Mrs. Shelby Jean East Tucker, age 77, of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2018, at the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Tucker was born in Surry County on May 21, 1940, to Ralph and Viola Hall East. Mrs. Tucker worked at Washington Mills in her early years and retired from Kentucky Derby Hosiery. She was of the Baptist faith. Surviving is a daughter, Debbie Tucker Forkel; a son, Noel Tucker and Ruby Cartwright; grandchildren, Dustin Forkel, Devin Forkel, Kendal Tucker, Karsyn Tucker, and Camille Cartwright; and a brother, R. J. East. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Odell Tucker, sisters, Rachel Taylor and Linda Simpson; and by brothers, Ed East and Don East. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at Moody Funeral Home and the service will held at Moody’s at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 25, 2018, by Rev. Buford Jessup. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to the Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home and their staff for the kindness and exceptional care given to Mrs. Tucker. “A mother’s love is special, a never ending gift, a love that’s always there if you ever need a lift. We loved you every day, now we’ll miss you every day.”
