Mrs. Shirley Jane York King Simmons, 76, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. She was born in Surry County on September 25, 1935 to the late Willie Cornelius and Myrtle Suzanne Hemmings York. Mrs. Simmons was a homemaker and a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, George Dwayne Simmons of Mt. Airy; two daughters, Denise Peebles of Yadkinville, Sara Vaden of Winston Salem; two grandchildren; Adam Brent Vaden of Winston Salem, Laurn Denise Peebles of Yadkinville; a sister-in-law, Gay York of Mt. Airy; a niece, Lisa Huckaby of Oklahoma; two nephews, Bill York of Mt. Airy, Byron York of Charlotte. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Simmons was preceded in death by her first husband, Vance King; a granddaughter; Hannah Sara Vaden; one brother, J.W. York; a son-in-law, Larry Peebles. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Love and Rev. Alton Bledsoe officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday night from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Office of Development, P.O. Box 571021 Winston Salem, NC 27157-1021, or to the Surry Humane Society, 230 Frederick Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030. Online condolences may be made at www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
