Mrs. Stella Mae Poore Bowman

Mrs. Stella Mae Poore Bowman, age 96, of Mount Airy, and widow of William Scott Bowman, died Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Mrs. Bowman was born in Surry County, NC on July 26, 1915 the daughter of the late William Walter (Will) and Ida Goard Poore. Mrs. Bowman was retired from Belk Stores of Mount Airy, was a volunteer with the Northern Hospital of Surry County's Auxiliary, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary for over 60 years, and was a faithful member of Haymore Memorial Baptist Church. Mrs. Bowman is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Swanson Snow of Mount Airy; two sons, W. Jerry Bowman of Greenville, SC, and David P. Bowman and wife, Lisa Carol Brewer of Hendersonville, NC; five grandchildren, S. Mark Snow and wife, Lynn of Pilot Mountain, NC, W. Scott Snow and wife, Karen of King, NC, Benjamin Brewer-Bowman, Lucas Brewer-Bowman and Anna Brewer-Bowman all of Hendersonville, NC; great grandchildren, Kayla Snow, Abigail Snow and Emily Snow, all of Pilot Mountain, Matthew Snow and Madison Snow both of King, NC; nieces, Patricia P. Drumwright and husband, Ronald of Virginia Beach, VA, Rebecca P. Irvine and husband, Richard of McLean, VA; one nephew, William Howard (Woodie) Poore, Jr. and wife, Katy of Virginia Beach, VA. In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bowman was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, William Howard (Woodie) Poore, Sr., and wife Elizabeth and a sister-in-law, Frances B. Clifton. A graveside service will be held Sunday, November 27, 2011 at 3:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery in Mount Airy with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. The Bowman family will receive family and friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy on Sunday from 1:30 until 3:00 PM, and at other times at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Swanson Snow, 1508 West Fairfield Drive, Mount Airy, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Haymore Memorial Baptist Church, 319 Rockford St., Mount Airy, NC 27030.
