Mrs. Stella Jones Rumley

Mrs. Stella Regina Jones Rumley, age 93 of Mount Airy, departed this world to join her husband and son in Heaven, on December 28, 2011. Her husband was the late Thomas Haswell Rumley and her son was the late Rev. Thomas Larry Rumley. She is survived by a son, Donald Rumley and wife Helen of Greensboro; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Rumley McGatlin and husband Ron of Mount Airy; A sister, Ila Chilton of Mt. Airy and a brother, Coley Jones of Mount Airy; three granddaughters, Haley Rumley Byrd and husband Jeremy of Mauldin, SC; Jessica Rumley Simandle and husband Steve of Mount Airy and Heather Rumley White and husband Geoff of Fayetteville; ten great grandchildren, Abigail Byrd, Benjamin Byrd, Canaan Byrd and Ruby Byrd of Mauldin, SC, Jill Simandle, Luke Simandle and Quinn Simandle of Mount Airy; Carson White, Adam White and Stella Ashlynn White of Fayetteville. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Stella was a graduate of White Plains High School and was retired from Spencer's, Inc. in Mount Airy. She was a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church for the past seventy years. She loved her church and attended faithfully until her recent illness. Stella was known for her flowers and her gardening, which she enjoyed thru this past summer. She was blessed with special neighbors who were her guardian angels: Hilda and Gray Shelton and Gloria and Arthur McCann. She had a caring Deacon Phil Whitaker, and wife Phyllis, who visited her faithfully. Special thanks to the staff at Golden Living Rehab Center, who provided her with loving care during her last two months. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Mount Carmel Baptist Church by Rev. Rusty Reed with burial in the church cemetery. Before the service the body will lie in state from 1:30 until 3:00, with the family present to greet friends.
