Mrs. Sylvia Marion Johnson

Mrs. Sylvia Marion Johnson, age 83, of Mt. Airy, NC passed away on Monday October 14, 2013 at the Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mt. Airy. She was born in Surry County on June 1, 1930 to the late Coley and Lettie Atkins Marion. Sylvia was a faithful Member of Piney Grove Baptist Church as long as her health permitted, and was retired from Procter Silex in Mt. Airy. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Fred William Johnson; five sisters Bertha Chilton, Daisy Hembree, Gracie Atkins, Mamie Marion, and Stella Lewis; five brothers Melvin Marion, Gratsie Marion, Ray Marion, Bill Marion, and Coy Marion. Surviving are two daughters Edna Johnson Hawks of Lowgap, Lorene Johnson Moore of Dobson; two sons and daughter-in-law James William Johnson of Mt. Airy, David Lee and Rhonda Johnson of Pilot Mountain; twelve grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday October 17, 2013 at Piney Grove Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Reece, Rev. Kermit Gray, and Rev. Mitchell Robertson will conduct the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson on Wednesday evening from 7:00 P.M. until 9:00 P.M. and at other times the home of their mother on Turner Mountain Road.
