Mrs. Sylvia Lena Hurst Wilson age 89 passed away Monday, June 27, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family, she fought the good fight, she finished the race, she kept the faith. Mrs. Wilson was born in Patrick County on April 9, 1922 to the late Phillip Kearney and Louinda Hundley Hurst. She was retired from the Public Library and also worked for Green Thumb, a government agency which assisted the elderly. She loved her time at the Library, especially when the children came for their programs. Mrs. Wilson loved her church and her friends at Fellowship Baptist Church who loved her also. She continued to study her Sunday School lessons and her bible as long as she could hold her bible. She was a loving wife, a second mother to her nieces and her nephews who adored her and a faithful Christian and loving friend. Mrs. Wilson was blessed by special caregivers who loved and took care of her, a special niece, and caregiver, Rita H. McHone, Nyra H. Holderfield, Jean Byrd, Wanda Gravley, and Shelby Graybeal, a loyal friends, Mrs. Shirley Dugger, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Tyson, Kathryn Ashburn and Rebecca and Stephen Stanley. She is survived by her husband, Charlie R. Wilson of the home; nieces and nephews, Roger and Michelle Gravley, Rev. Phillip M. Hurst and Mrs. Diane Stamey, Glen and Ginger Haynes, Joe Hurst, Rita McHone, Sybil and Ted Whittaker, Pixie and Nick Stilner, Peggy Blalock and Tina Hurst. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by four sisters, Joy Hurst, Gladys Scales, Viola Smith and Thelma McKnight; four brothers, Marion, Earnest, Wyatt and Everett Hurst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 2:00 PM at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Eddie Honeycutt officiating. Burial will follow in Skyline Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:00 noon until time for the service at the church. The family wishes to thank the caregivers from Mountain Valley Hospice.
