Mrs. Thelma Rakes Chaney

Mrs. Thelma Rakes Chaney, age 74, of Patrick Springs passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at the Stanleytown Health Care Center. She was born in Franklin County on Aug. 29, 1942 to the late Henry “Luther” Rakes and Vergie Holley Rakes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Junior Lee Chaney; two sisters, Annie Foster Whitlow, Eva Foster Hobson; and four brothers, Odell Foster, Charlie William Foster, Eugene Prater, and Junice Prater. Mrs. Chaney was a member of the Patrick Henry Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are a sister, Betty Sue Holley of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 7, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Tim Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Adkins Family Cemetery, Ferrum, VA. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
