Mrs. Thelma May Puckett Lewis, age 96, of Martinsville, passed away Friday Oct. 27, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. She was born in Meadows of Dan on Jan. 22, 1921 to the late Samuel “Sambo” Puckett and Dora Lee Cockran Puckett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Vee Lewis; one daughter, Eva May Hopkins; two sisters, Myrtle Boyd, Nellie Barnard; and two brothers, Charlie Puckett and Leonard Puckett. Mrs. Lewis was a member of Old Spoon Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and neighbor. She loved flowers, gardening, canning, and visiting friends and family. She especially enjoyed trips to Meadows of Dan and the surrounding communities.
Surviving are one daughter and sons-in-law, Kathy and Glenn Gauldin of Horsepasture, William Hopkins of Kernersville, NC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Duane and Vernie Lewis of Martinsville, Robert E. “Bob” and Sharon Lewis of Fancy Gap; 10 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; one brother and sisters-in-law, Otis and Clara Puckett of Meadows of Dan, Evelyn Puckett of Chesterfield; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Tim McGrady officiating. Burial will follow in the Knowles-Eden Family Cemetery.
