Mrs. Treva Dowell

Mrs. Treva Dowell, 99, of Mt. Airy passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born in Surry County to the late Toliver and Alice Lowe Galyean on June 7, 1918.
Treva Dowell hailed from a hard working all American family from Lowgap, NC. Her dad was a farmer and worked at the local saw mill and her mother helped farm, milk the cows and raise the kids. Her life began in a one room log cabin. She said they had the pettiest dirt yard in the neighborhood that she meticulously raked every morning. After getting married to Leo Dowell Sr., she not only raised 3 children and a grandchild, but worked beside Leo in several grocery and produce stores. She was still working 3 days a week at the Snappy Lunch up until she was 96 years old! She hoped and prayed she would reach her 100 birthday. She told a friend they would have to somehow come up with 100 balloons but she would not have to blow them up! Treva had a great sense of humor and would tell you what she thought, even before you asked her. Treva would have been 100 years old on June 7, 2018. She will lovingly be remembered by her son and daughter-in-law, Leo Dowell, Jr. and wife Terri; grandchildren and their families, Jon Dowell and wife Keri and their children, Alex and Katherine Dowell; Crystal Herring and son Reid, Mark Galyean and wife Ginger and their children, McKenzie, Brooklyn, and Taylor Galyean. In addition to her parents, Treva was preceded in death by her husband, Leo Dowell, Sr.; a son, Bobby Galyean; a daughter, Janet Dowell; a sister, Mabel Boles; brothers, Reece, Lynwood, and Ralph Galyean. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert McCrary officiating. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 3:00 until the time of the service.
