Mrs. Velda Mae Boyd Smart

         Mrs. Velda Mae Belcher Boyd Smart, age 81 of Woolwine, Virginia passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Stanleytown Health Care and Rehab.  Mrs. Smart was born in Patrick County on February 27, 1937 to the late Landis Greely Belcher and Nancy Conner Belcher. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, George Everett Boyd; her second husband, Leon Smart; one grandson, David Neal Boyd; step-daughter, Sandra Spangler; and three brothers, John, Leonard, and Delmer Belcher.  Velda was a longtime member of Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church.  She will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandma, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, she especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

         Mrs. Smart is survived by two sons, Rodney Leon Boyd and wife, Mary of Bassett, and Gerald Everett Boyd and wife, Mandy of Woolwine; three step-children, Pamela S. Young of Ararat, Michael Leon Smart of Kernersville, North Carolina, and Kimberly Dione Smart of Martinsville; seven grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three sisters, Stella Conner of Woolwine, Mary Conner of Fieldale, and Evadell Clark of Fieldale; one brother, Maynard Belcher of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.

         Funeral services for Mrs. Smart will be held on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Kenneth Terry officiating.  Burial will be in Patrick Memorial Gardens.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Monday afternoon at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, 4698 Woolwine Hwy., Stuart, VA  24171 or to the Smith River Rescue Squad, P.O.
