Mrs. Velva "Mama Clift" Webb Clifton

Mrs. Velva Inez Webb Clifton, age 99 of Statesville, NC and formerly of Stuart went to live with the Lord on Friday, June 3, 2011, at Autumn Care of Statesville, NC. She was born on July 24, 1911 in Carroll County to the late Talmadge and Lillie Vipperman Webb. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Lunda L. Clifton; a daughter, Clara Marie Clifton; two brothers, Avery and Saunders Webb; four sisters, Vola Cockram, Myrtis Hubbard, Fannie Hubbard, Lula Wood; and a great grandson, Matthew Ruane. Mrs. Clifton loved people and had a giving and gentle spirit. She especially loved caring for children to whom she became known as "Mama Clift". In her later years at Autumn Care she was Grandma and Granny to all who knew her.
Surviving are two daughters and a son in law, Lois Lee and Joseph Davis of Greensboro, NC, Lorna C. Souza of Statesville, NC; one son, Arnold W. Clifton of Statesville, NC; four granddaughters, Beverly Ruane, and husband, David, Cynthia Norton, Amanda Clifton, Savannah Clifton; three step granddaughters, Cindy Johnson, Pam Carter, Linda Trembly; two grandsons, Scott Clifton and wife, Suzie, Jeremy Clifton; 8 great grandchildren, Erin Ruane, Monica Westgate, Rachel Ruane, Michael Blair, Danielle Blair, Jana Clifton, Danny Clifton, Linnera Clifton; and 6 great great grandchildren, Xavier Ingram, Tyler Westgate, Owen Westgate, Mackenzie Westgate, Ethan McKinnon, and Greyson Blair.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 6, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Faith Baptist Church with Pastor Tom Corbell officiating. Burial will follow in the Alex Cockram Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
