Mrs. Vera Adkins Shelton

Mrs. Vera Adline Adkins Shelton, age 94 of Stuart, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2006 at Northern Hospital of Surry County in Mount Airy, North Carolina. She was born in Patrick County on June 28, 1912 to the late Willie Elmer and Lillie Bowling Adkins. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shelton was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Linville Shelton, one son, Raymond Shelton; and one brother, Alvis Duel Adkins. She was a graduate of Radford College and was a member of Stuart Baptist Church. She was a retired teacher with the Patrick County school system, and was a member of the Joy Workers, the Marie Shumate Circle and the Retired Teachers Association.
Mrs. Shelton is survived by one son, Richard Shelton, and his wife, Opal, of Stuart; a daughter-in-law, Judy B. Shelton of Stuart; 5 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Lorna Adkins of Stuart; and a special caregiver, Bonnie Goad.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lee Shelton officiating. Burial will follow in Stuart Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Charmaine Atkins, P.O.
