Mrs. Veradean Fleming Battles

Mrs. Veradean Fleming Battles, 84 years and 364 days, of Mt. Airy won her battle with cancer at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home on Thursday, November 5, 2015. She was born in Surry County on November 6, 1930 to the late Bert and Grace Childress Fleming. She worked for Renfro Hosiery and retired from Cross Creek Apparel after over 36 years of service. Mrs. Battles loved her family and cared for her nieces and nephews as if they were her own children. She loved and respected all of her friends. She is survived by a sister, Jacqueline Rentz from Waynesville, MO., a brother-in-law, W.L. Collins; special nieces, Tammy Brim and husband, Brian, Pam Shelton and husband, Frank; Sue Snelling and husband, Harry special nephews, Travis Collins and wife, Samantha, David Rents and wife, Beth, Dennis Rentz; special great nieces, Emily Brim and Josie Shelton; special great nephew, Mason. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Battles was preceded in death by sisters, Nancy Jane Fleming Collins and Mary Lillie Fleming Teter; brothers, Jimmy, Elmo, and Leo Fleming. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Moody Funeral Home in Mt. Airy on Sunday from 12:30 PM until the time to leave for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Rd., Dobson, NC 27017.
