Mrs. Verla Key Peele

Mrs. Verla Elizabeth Key Peele, age 92 of Mt. Airy, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 08, 2013 at Walnut Ridge Assisted Living. Mrs. Peele was born in Surry County on April 3, 1920 to John Gabriel and Ida Mae Boyles Key. She was a dedicated mother. She enjoyed oil painting, crochet, bead work and especially her family and friends. According to her four sons, she must have been the example God had in mind when he created moms. She was a long time member of New Hope United Methodist Church. Surviving are four loving sons and daughters-in-law, Gilmer and Linda Peele of Mt. Airy; Clyde and Barbara Peele of Pilot Mountain; Wayne and Shirley Peele of Kernersville; Charlie and Lisa Peele of Pilot Mountain; her beloved grandchildren; Anita Snow, Kevin Peele, Tracy Weatherford, Amy Harpe, Holly Shields, Melanie Page, Jessica Shouse and Lindsay Peele; twenty great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; sisters and a brother-in-law, Eva Armstrong of Ararat, NC; Ruth and Louie Stack of Albany, GA and Betty Linthicum of Sophia. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Peele was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Peele, sisters, Sadie Harris and Myrtle Peele, an infant sister Annie Lou Key and brothers, Paul Key, Sam Key, Frank Key and John Key. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Sunday, February 10, 2013 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ted Turman, Rev. Marion Fulk and Rev. Steve Johnson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Burial will be in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family would like to express a special thanks to Walnut Ridge Assisted Living Center in Walnut Cove, Pioneer Hospital in Danbury and Dr. Sam Newsome of King, for the excellent care they provided, "On a scale of 1 to 10, they are at least a 12!"
