Mrs. Verna P. Anderson

Mrs. Verna P. Anderson, age 76 of Claudville, passed away in her home on Sunday, December 4, 2011. She was born in Patrick County on June 18, 1935 to the late W. B. and Mary Powell Slate. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Anderson was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Louis Anderson; one son, Frederick John "Freddie" Pike; and one brother, Jim Slate. She was a life long member of Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by two grandchildren, Justin Pike and Jakob Pike, both of Lenoir, North Carolina; one great-granddaughter, Ellie Pike of Mount Airy, North Carolina; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Virginia S. Bingman of Critz, Cleo and Billy Ray George of Ararat; one brother and sister-in-law, Douglas R. and Betty Sue Slate of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina; a sister-in-law, Helen A. Matthews of Blacksburg; one brother-in-law, Charles Anderson and his wife, Martha of Tullahoma, Tennessee; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mrs. Anderson will be held Wednesday, December 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Horner Walker Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Roundtree officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.
