Mrs. Verna C. Ratliff

Mrs. Verna Etta Cassell Ratliff, age 95 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, January 10, 2008 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Patrick County on November 10, 1912 to the late William Mack and Susan Underwood Cassell. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ratliff was preceded in death by her husband, Dimon Lee Ratliff; one son and daughter-in-law, Guy and Mary Anna Ratliff; one granddaughter, Debbie R. Brim; four brothers, Madison, Austin, Edison and Clarence Cassell; and two sisters, Melva Dillon and Myrtle Graham. She was a longtime member of Patrick Springs Church of God of Prophecy.
Mrs. Ratliff is survived by seven daughters and sons-in-law, Alice Young of Collinsville, Barbara Holt of Bassett, Mary and Guy Sigmon of Collinsville, Geraldean and Ed Smith of Bassett, Myrtle and Wayne Smith of Bassett, Carol and Elmer Martin of Patrick Springs and Dot and Roger Shough of Stuart; and four sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Bettie Ratliff of Boston, Kentucky, Grady and Lois Ratliff of Bassett, Coy and Pauline Ratliff of Patrick Springs, and Eddie and Kaye Ratliff of Fieldale; 34 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Nettie Sanders of Patrick Springs and Elsie Morrison of Collinsville.
Funeral services for Mrs. Ratliff will be held Sunday, January 13, 2008 at 2:00pm at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Dale Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in Liberty Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
