Mrs. Virginia Lee Ward Fulk, 98, of Pilot Mountain passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Surry Community Health and Rehabilitation in Mt. Airy. She was born in Forsyth County on May 12, 1919 to the late Rev. Orville Ward and Victoria Chambers Ward. Mrs. Fulk was the first female Police Officer in Pilot Mountain. She worked for Dr. Jona Salk who invented the Polio Vaccination. She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Fain Wilkey; grandchildren, Lee Wilkey of Dugspur, VA, Jason Wilkey of Mt. Airy, Chad and Shanelle Wilkey of Lexington; six great grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lee Bendure, and Betty Jensen both of Maryland; many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fulk was preceded in death by her first husband, Joseph Anthony Berwanger, her second husband, Johnny Fulk; a son, Malcolm Dudley Wilkey.
