Mrs. Wavie Lawson Whitaker, age 92 of Jonesville, NC our loving mother departed this life on October 10, 2007. She was born in Surry County on February 27, 1915 to the late Tom Lawson and the late Mary Key Lawson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Grady Whitaker; two daughters Bessie Whitaker, Bonnie McNeil; two grandchildren; and by one sister and two brothers. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith. Surviving are five daughters and sons-in-law Louise and Ernest Westmoreland of Winston Salem, Myrtle and Wint Pardue of Jonesville, Rosa and Jimmy Moon of Rural Hall, Betty Spicer of Traphill, Sandra and Curtis Hayes of Elkin; one son William "Pete" Whitaker of the home; seventeen grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren, thirteen great- great grandchildren; one sister Evelyn Payne of Dobson; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of Moody-Davis Funeral Home in Dobson, with burial to follow in the Little Richmond Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Clifford White and Rev. Danny Dodds will officiate the services. The family will receive friends at Moody-Davis Funeral Home on Friday evening from 7 until 9 P.M. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care Elkin Division 107 Court Street, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to express heart felt thanks to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care and to all our family and friends for the love and care given to our Mother during her illness.
