Mrs. Winifred Edith Bateman

Mrs. Winifred Edith Bateman, age 90 of Stuart, passed away Sunday, March 8, 2009 at the Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 10, 1918 to the late Edgar and Maggie Heath Burge. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bateman was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Bateman; one son, Donald Bateman; one son-in-law, Raymond Shelton; and a daughter-in-law, Ann Bateman. She was a member of Hills Grove Baptist Church, and had retired from United Elastic Corporation.
Mrs. Bateman is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Judy Shelton and Peggy and Bruce Francis, all of Stuart; eight grandchildren, Kim Shafer, Missy Reed, Mike Bateman, Jarrell Francis, Suzanne Francis, Vicki Reece, Donnie Shelton and Kristi White; seventeen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bateman will be held Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Rev. Jim Churchwell and Rev. Reggie Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Hills Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart.
